Abstract
Colloquial speech is a phenomenon that occurs in daily communication, especially among young people. This text illustrates lexical and phraseological elements of colloquial speech of young people. These elements were obtained from two linguistic corpora, as well as analyzed with the purpose of elaborating a dictionary of colloquialisms. The analysis process led to a development of a lexicographical record integrating the uses and frequencies of each identified term. In addition, this analytical process permitted the implementation of a lexicographical method similar to the one implemented for the elaboration of the Dictionary of Mexican Spanish (Diccionario del Español de México, 2010). As result of these analytical processes, a Dictionary of Colloquialisms of Baja California was elaborated. It integrates 441 colloquial terms used by young people in a range of 14 to 30 years old. Some examples of this colloquial terminology are carrillero, perreado, puqui, chapulinear, and masacuata. It is worth mentioning that this dictionary aims to support translation, interpretation, and studies in applied linguistics.
