Abstract
An onomasiological dictionary is analyzed in this contribution. For this purpose, it offers an overview of the types of onomasiological dictionaries in Spanish, their influence, their most important characteristics, as well as their differences with other onomasiological lexicographical works, such as visual or thematic dictionaries. The Casares’ dictionary, being the most representative model, serves as an example for analyzing this type of dictionaries. The main aim is to give a vision of those onomasiological dictionaries which are very much unknown to the common user.
